BANNOCKBURN FARM LLC began a Warmblood Sport Horse breeding program in 1993. Prior to that we were breeding both Thoroughbreds for the track and Appendix Quarter Horses. Our love for jumping grew out of 20 years of foxhunting and became a desire to breed a horse that would be able to be versatile in all the Olympic sports.
Concentrating on Olympic-based bloodlines and researching competitions all over the world , we came up with a list of International stallions which we felt we needed in the pedigrees of our breeding stock. They were LUGANO VAN LAROCHE, COR DE LA BREYERE , RAMIRO Z , ALME Z and LORD all warmbloods and LADYKILLER , COTTAGE SON , FURIOSO , NASRULLAH and NATIVE DANCER all Thoroughbreds . Since then we have added CONCORDE , NIMMERDOR , PILOT , JUS DE POMME , CHIN-CHIN in addition to DARCO by LUGANO VAN LA ROCHE . We continue to breed to frozen semen from world class stallions to expand our mare base and although the insemination process is not always easy especially with overseas frozen semen , we have more confidence each year in our original selections as they continue to produce international winners.
We were extremely fortunate to be able to obtain a wonderful mare , MONTANA by JUS DE POMME just after his gold medal victory in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics . She is out of a Keur mare by OLYMPIC AHORN and has produced many foals who are talented jumpers.
Several years later we were also fortunate to be able to purchase one of the two mares out of the 1984 LA Olympics gold medal winner TOUCH OF CLASS . Her name is CLASS ACT and she is by the Selle Francais stallion PERREL .
In order to best preserve these bloodlines we have elected to do embryo transfer on these mares each year using a variety of stallions and always hoping for fillies to add to our mare base.
Each year that passes we are noticing more horses from our original bloodline choices are successful showing both Nationally and Internationally.
In 1996 the German gold medal team at the Atlanta Olympics included RATINA Z by RAMIRO Z , dam's sire ALME Z ; JUS DE POMME who was also the individual gold medal winner , dam's dam's sire ALME Z and FOR PLEASURE ,sire's sire FURIOSO XX.
That same year LA INA by LUGANO VAN LA ROCHE was European Show Jumping Champion and winner of the $750,000 Spruce Meadows Masters International Grand Prix. In the 2000 World Cup at Las Vegas , Nevada U.S.A. there were two horses by DARCO by LUGANO VAN LAROCHE that were 5th and 7th in the final results.
At the 2006 World Equestrian Games the U.S.A. team included SAPPHIRE by DARCO and QUERVO GOLD by JUS DE POMME. These two showjumpers ridden respectively by McClain Ward and Margie Engle are again on the American team for the 2007 Aachen Horse Show. Proving that these bloodlines also hold up to the stress of competition.
We raise from 5 to 10 foals per year and sell horses from foals to 4 year olds. They begin free-jumping and round pen work at two years . They are also shown in hand as both yearlings and two year olds. All horses are registered with the Belgian Warmblood Breeding Association / North American District and registration papers and International passports originate in Belgium. The foals are branded in their first year with the Belgian Warmblood brand and starting in 2007 they will be given a lifetime number by the USEF.
Our mission statement is to breed sound , talented , athletic horses with calm and willing dispositions and winning bloodlines.
